Mission and Vision

Harvesting Democracy was founded on June 1, 2023. Our mission is to elect state and local progressive candidates running in rural districts in Tennessee.

Change will only happen in Tennessee by intentionally supporting progressive candidates running for state and local office in majority rural districts– with a specific emphasis on candidates running for local office. This is a longterm strategy that will have a big payoff for Tennessee with continued longterm investments.

Doing this will yield the following outcomes:

• Flip seats
• Move the needle
• Increase voter turnout through competitive races
• Increase the number of candidates in the pipeline to run for higher office
• Energize and grow county Democratic Parties– especially rural county Democratic Parties
• Increase Democratic Party messaging
• Increase the number of rural organizers
• Increase the number of organizers with campaign experience
• Increase the number of volunteers for progressive campaigns
